Das ortsunabhängige Arbeiten, wie in meinem Fall, muss aber dennoch geplant werden.
Fragen zur Reiseplanung wie:
- Gibt es gutes Internet?
- Wann kann ich einchecken (die Rezeption auf einem Campingplatz ist nicht wie im Hotel 24/7 da, sondern meist zu Zeiten von 8-12 und 15-18 Uhr) à ab und an kollidiert das aber mit meinen Probe- und Produktionszeiten. Auch das Ausfahren früh morgens um 6 Uhr ist nicht immer möglich. Die Wohnmobilstellplätze scheinen doch eher für die Rentner-Generation oder Urlauber gemacht zu sein und nicht so sehr für diejenigen, die vom und mit Van arbeiten wollen.
- Hat der Stellplatz überhaupt geöffnet? Einige haben nur zur Sommersaison geöffnet, die geht je nachdem von März bis Oktober, bei einigen aber auch nur in den Sommermonaten
- Wie ist die Anbindung in die Stadt, wenn ich dort arbeite, sei es für eine Produktion, sei es in einem Co-Working space?
- Gibt es Duschen? (in meinem Fall essentiell, ich möchte mit frisch-gemachten Haaren zum Kunden kommen)
- Gibt es einen Mindestaufenthalt?
Fakt ist, im Wald oder am See zu stehen im mobile Office ist definitiv Luxus. Immer wieder habe ich aber feststellen müssen, dass doch mehr Planung dahintersteckt, als man von außen sieht (oder sehen möchte). Sei es drum: nach dem Call mit dem Kunden noch am Strand zu spazieren, ist die Orga dennoch wert 😉 Und wenn dann besseres Wetter als in Deutschland herrscht oder man generell einen schönen Ausblick bzw Tapetenwechsel hat, dann lobe ich mir doch das digitale Nomaden-dasein.

Just drive off with the van and be. That’s pure freedom, isn’t it? To be able to drive everywhere, to stand in wild places, to drift (caminostyle). A dream.
But working location-independently, as in my case, still needs to be planned.
Travel planning questions like:
- Is there good internet?
- When can I check in (the reception at a campground isn’t there 24/7 like at a hotel, but usually at times from 8am-12pm and 3pm-6pm) every now and then, however, that clashes with my rehearsal and production times. Also going out early in the morning at 6am is not always possible. The RV parks seem to be made more for the retired generation or vacationers and not so much for those who want to work from and with the van.
- Is the campsite open at all? Some are only open for the summer season, which goes from March to October depending on, but for some only in the summer months
- What is the connectivity to the city if I work there, either for a production, or in a co-working space?
- Are there showers? (essential in my case, I want to come to the client with freshly done hair).
- Is there a minimum stay?
The fact is, standing in the forest or by the lake in a mobile office is definitely luxury. However, I have repeatedly found that there is more planning behind it than meets the eye (or would like to see it). Be that as it may, walking along the beach after the call with the customer is still worth the effort 😉 And if the weather is better than in Germany or you generally have a nice view or change of scenery, then I praise being a digital nomad.
