Willkommen zurück, liebe Gypsy Souls, zu einem weiteren Abenteuer auf diesem Blog! Heute entführe ich euch in die faszinierende Welt von Seattle, einer Stadt, die nicht nur für ihre imposante Skyline bekannt ist, sondern auch für ihre Vielseitigkeit in Technologie, Kultur und Geschichte.
Tech-Giganten und Kaffee-Kultur
Seattle, die Heimat von Microsoft, Meta, Amazon, Boeing und Google, ist zweifellos eine Arbeitsstadt und Tech-Hochburg. Die ständige Präsenz dieser Giganten spiegelt sich in der geschäftigen Atmosphäre der Stadt wider. Hier pulsiert der Puls der Innovation, und die Skyline wird von modernen Gebäuden geprägt.
Und dann gibt es Starbucks – der Ort, an dem die Kaffeekultur der Stadt ihren Ursprung nahm. Mit über 400 Coffee Shops allein in Seattle ist der Duft von frisch geröstetem Kaffee allgegenwärtig. Die Einheimischen schwören auf ihre morgendliche Dosis Koffein, sei es beim Arbeiten im Silicon Valley des Nordwestens oder beim Entspannen in einem der zahlreichen gemütlichen Cafés.
Eine Stadt der Kontraste
Seattle ist nicht nur eine Tech-Stadt, sondern auch ein Ort der kulinarischen Vielfalt. Während die Abendessen möglicherweise nicht so im Fokus stehen, ist die Happy Hour eine Tradition. Von Sushi bis hin zu saftigen Burgern bietet die Stadt eine breite Palette an Gaumenfreuden, das liegt daran, weil alle Techis hier in der Mittagspause oder nach der Arbeit verweilen und etwas zum Beißen benötigen. Sehr gut geeignet ist dafür auch der Farmers Markt bzw. Pike place Market.
Hier in Downtown sieht man leider auch sehr viele Obdachlose. Es ist ein typisch amerikanisches Bild. Das Sozialsystem ist völlig anders aufgebaut als in Deutschland und fast gänzlich nicht vorhanden. Lediglich in Downtown gibt es einige Organisationen, die ich den Betroffenen Unterstützung anbieten.
Die Musik- und Tanzszene ist inspiriert von der Geschichte der Stadt, die einst von Bäumen dominiert wurde. Seattle hat sich jedoch zu einer pulsierenden Metropole entwickelt, in der Kunst und Kreativität blühen.
Unter der Erde und Über den Wolken
Die Underground Tour von Seattle gibt einen faszinierenden Einblick in die Geschichte der Stadt. Hier erfährt man, wie Straßen aufgrund von Überflutungen erhöht wurden und wie Teile der Stadt nun unter der Erde verweilen. Eine faszinierende Reise durch die Vergangenheit, die von engagierten Tourguides mit Witz und Charme präsentiert wird.
Über den Wolken erhebt sich das berühmte Seattle Needle, ein Relikt der Weltausstellung von vor über 50 Jahren. Mit 200 Metern Höhe bietet es einen atemberaubenden Blick über die Stadt und ihre Umgebung. Doch nicht nur die Aussicht, sondern auch die Geschichte hinter diesem ikonischen Bauwerk macht den Besuch unvergesslich.
Der beste, kostenfreie Blick über Seattle
Man kann auf „die Needle“ gehen oder auch von dem ältesten Gebäude (weißes Hochhaus) oder vom Colombia Center (jeweils mit Eintritt verbunden), einen Blick über die Stadt genießen. Den wohl besten Blick und gleichzeitig kostenfrei, gibt es oben im Kerry Park. Wundervoll.
Seattle ist sehr steil… hier geht es wirklich richtig hoch und runter. Aber einmal oben angekommen, belohnt der Blick allemal. Gleich 300m um die Ecke ist übrigens das Haus von „Meredith Grey“ aus „Greys Anatomy“ in der wunderschönen Queen Anne Nachbarschaft.
Ein Hauch von Hamburg im Nordwesten
Das maritime Flair von Seattle erinnert stark an Hamburg. Der Hafen, die Fähren und das wechselhafte Wetter – eine vertraute Atmosphäre für Nordlicht-Liebhaber. Seattle liegt vom Breitengrad höher als Toronto, im Winter sind durchschnittlich 5 Grad, die Sonne geht erst 9 Uhr auf und 17 Uhr unter. Alles wie in Hamburg also. Im Sommer sind hier aber durchschnittlich 28 Grad.
Der Blick auf den Mount Rainier, der majestätisch über der Stadt thront, rundet das Bild ab (4392m).
Fazit: Seattle – Eine Stadt der Gegensätze
Seattle hat mich mit seiner Vielfalt und seinen Kontrasten beeindruckt. Von Tech-Giganten bis hin zur gemütlichen Kaffeekultur, von der Untergrundgeschichte bis zu den atemberaubenden Aussichten – diese Stadt hat für jeden etwas zu bieten. Eine Reise, die nicht nur die Sinne, sondern auch das Herz berührt.

Welcome back, dear Gypsy Souls, to another adventure on our blog! Today I’m taking you into the fascinating world of Seattle, a city known not only for its impressive skyline, but also for its diversity in technology, culture and history.
Tech giants and coffee culture
Seattle, home to Microsoft, Amazon, Boeing and Google, is undoubtedly a working city and tech hub. The constant presence of these giants is reflected in the bustling atmosphere of the city. The pulse of innovation beats here and the skyline is dominated by modern buildings.
And then there’s Starbucks – the place where the city’s coffee culture began. With over 400 coffee shops in Seattle alone, the smell of freshly roasted coffee is omnipresent. Locals swear by their morning dose of caffeine, whether working in the Silicon Valley of the Northwest or relaxing in one of the many cozy cafés.
A city of contrasts
Seattle is not only a tech city, but also a place of culinary diversity. While dinners may not be as much of a focus, happy hour is a tradition. From sushi to juicy burgers, the city offers a wide range of culinary delights. It is, because the techis need to something, mostly during lunchbreak or afterwork, so that´s why, a lot of things are based in Downtown and they have happy hour.
Unfortunately, you also see a lot of homeless people here in Downtown. It’s a typical American picture. The social system is completely different to that in Germany and almost non-existent. Only in Downtown are there a few organizations that offer support to those affected.
The music and dance scene is inspired by the history of the city, which was once dominated by trees. However, Seattle has evolved into a vibrant metropolis where art and creativity flourish.
Underground and above the clouds
The Underground Tour of Seattle provides a fascinating insight into the history of the city. Here you can learn how streets were raised due to flooding and how parts of the city are now underground. A fascinating journey through the past, presented with wit and charm by dedicated tour guides.
Rising above the clouds is the famous Seattle Needle, a relic of the World’s Fair from over 50 years ago. At 200 meters high, it offers a breathtaking view of the city and its surroundings. However, it’s not just the view, but also the history behind this iconic building that makes the visit unforgettable.
The best free view over Seattle
You can go up to „the Needle“ or enjoy a view over the city from the oldest building (white skyscraper) or from the Colombia Center (each with an entrance fee). Probably the best view, which is also free of charge, is from the top of Kerry Park. Wonderful.
Seattle is very steep… It really goes up and down here. But once you reach the top, the view is always worth it. Just 300m around the corner is the house of „Meredith Grey“ from „Greys Anatomy“ in the beautiful Queen Anne neighborhood.
A touch of Hamburg in the northwest
The maritime flair of Seattle is very reminiscent of Hamburg. The harbor, the ferries and the changeable weather – a familiar atmosphere for northern lights lovers. Seattle is higher in latitude than Toronto, the average temperature in winter is 5 degrees, the sun doesn’t rise until 9 am and sets at 5 pm. Just like Hamburg. In summer, however, the average temperature here is 28 degrees.
The view of Mount Rainier, which towers majestically over the city, completes the picture (4392m).

Seattle has impressed me with its diversity and contrasts. From tech giants to cozy coffee culture, from underground history to breathtaking views – this city has something for everyone. A journey that touches not only the senses, but also the heart.
