Wer noch nie vom Kieler Hafen mit einem Kreuzfahrtschiff in See gestochen ist, wird sich trotzdem ganz schnell zurechtfinden. Denn vom Hauptbahnhof Kiel kann man entweder mit einem Shuttle Bus zum Kreuzfahrtterminal fahren, oder man läuft den knappen Kilometer entlang der „blauen Linie“; vorbei am Hafen, vorbei am Rotlichtviertel (welches tagsüber sehr unscheinbar wirkt), vorbei an der Altstadt und den Blick immer nach vorn gerichtet, auf das Heck des neuen Flaggschiffs von Tui Cruises – der Mein Schiff 4.
Treu geblieben ist natürlich der imposante Diamant, weswegen man das Schiff auch nicht verwechseln kann. Aber auch von der anderen Seite erkennt man den Riesen, nicht nur, weil das Schiff einem den Weg weist, es zeigt „Mein Schiff“, sondern weil es neben den Rettungsbooten Steuerbord und Backbord jeweils riesige Glasfassaden ziert, die den Balkon ausmachen.
Aber bevor man seine Kabine und den Balkon inspizieren kann, muss man erst einmal durch die Sicherheitskontrolle und danach zum Check-in. Und das dauert sehr lange. Es gibt gerade einmal einen zweistündigen Slot, indem man einchecken darf, somit kommen auch alle 2506 Seelen auf einmal. Hierfür hat Tui Cruises vorgesorgt. Es gibt nämlich einen charmanten, jungen Mann, der die ganze Zeit gekühltes Wasser und Tee reicht. Bei den Aussichten kann man schon etwas länger stehen bleiben und warten. An Bord angekommen, versucht man, eine Orientierung zu finden. Das klappt sehr gut, dank Deckbezeichnungen wie „Krabbe (Deck 11), Aqua (Deck 12), und Horizont (Deck 14)“, die es auch schon auf anderen Schiffen der Reederei gibt.
Wenn man den ersten Blick in die Kabine wagt, ist man sprachlos. Es erwartet uns ein riesiges Zimmer mit einem gigantischen Bett, ein Arbeits- und Schminkplatz, ein hübsches, funktionales Bad, drei Gemälde pro Kabine, die individuell gestaltet sind und natürlich – der Balkon (zumindest bei über 80% der gesamten Kabinen!). Mit zwei Stühlen wartet er auf seine Gäste, die dem Sonnenuntergang entgegen schippern.
Doch ehe man sagen kann, „Ich bin auf Mein(em) Schiff ankommen“, ertönt schon das Signal für die Sicherheitsübung. Ein Sammelplatz ist im „Casino&Lounge“. Der Sicherheitsfilm wird nur über zwei Bildschirme gezeigt. Da aber extrem viele Menschen die Sicht verdecken, sehen die hinteren Gäste nichts. Da ist aber also noch Platz nach oben. Besser durchdacht ist die neue Methode, um alle Gäste durchzuzählen. Statt Papier auszudrucken, setzt Tui Cruises hier (nicht das erste Mal), auf Nachhaltigkeit und lässt die Crew die Gäste per Tablet abhaken. So kann man sich leicht auch an einer anderen Sammelstation treffen und auch besorgte Eltern wissen auf Knopfdruck, dass es den Kleinen im Kids Club gut geht.
Generell zieht der Kids und Teens Club die Kinder magisch an. Wenn es am Anfang des Tages noch heißt „Mama bleibst du hier“, gibt es am Ende des Tages Tränen, wenn man sich von den neuen Freunden losreißen muss. Tui Cruises ist sehr kinderfreundlich. Vom Nest für die Minis (mit Eltern), über den Kids Club mit verschiedenen Altersgruppen (Krabben: 3 bis 6 Jahre, Seeteufel: 7 bis 9 Jahre, Piranhas: 10 bis 11 Jahre) bis hin zum Teens Club, kann sich jeder vertun. Es gibt Tagesprogramme, Workshops, Spielekonsolen und sogar Ausflüge für Familien oder nur für Kinder. Es soll wohl auch Eltern geben, die ihre Kinder während des Urlaubs gar nicht sehen, weil diese nur noch dort“ abhängen“. Zumindest wird den Kindern ganz in Ruhe vor Ort beigebracht, was die Rettungsweste für Eigenschaften hat, wie die Pfeife funktioniert und warum ein Licht leuchtet, sobald die Weste mit Wasser in Berührung kommt. Die Kinder sind bestens auf den Ernstfall vorbereitet.
Wir befinden uns auf dem Weg Richtung Oslo. Der erste Abend rückt näher und es drängt sich die Frage auf, wo man Speisen möchte. Eine gute Wahl ist das Hauptrestaurant Atlantik. Denn hier hat man im Premium Alles inklusive Paket die Möglichkeit, gleich in drei verschiedenen Restaurants zu speisen. Man kann zwischen dem Atlantik Klassik, Mediterran oder Brasserie wählen. Die Brasserie mit französischen Spezialitäten bietet Zwiebelsuppe, Coq au vin und Maronenmousse mit Orangengelee . Das alles wird in gewohnter Atlantik Manier per Bedienung an den Platz gebracht. Hinterher kann man sich an unzähligen Bars noch einen Cocktail gönnen. Am beliebtesten ist hier die TUI Bar, dicht gefolgt von der Überschaubar und der Außenalster (je nach Tageszeit).
Um fit für den Tag zu ein, geht es am nächsten Morgen in den Spa&Sport Bereich. Die Geräte sind morgens um acht gut gefüllt, aber man bekommt einen Platz. Handtücher gibt es vor Ort, obwohl es einem fast Leid tut, den kleinen gefalteten Elefanten aus Handtüchern auseinanderzunehmen. Großen Andrang gibt es allerdings beim Yoga – klar bei dem Ausblick. Sanft wippen die kleinen Wellen vorbei, während die Teilnehmer den herabschauenden Hund vollführen. Der „Fisch“ wäre angesichts des Elements passender gewesen, ist aber sehr anspruchsvoll. Und im Sportkurs soll sich schließlich jeder wohlfühlen. Positive Ressonanz finden auch Zumba und Latin Dance. Hier kann man richtig Kalorien verbrennen. Angesichts der Tatsache, dass es nach dem Sport zum Frühstück geht, ein Muss!
Frühstückern lässt die Backstube das Herz aufgehen. Zig verschiedene Brot- und Brötchensorten, Croissants, Laugenbrezeln und Co. warten in ihren Körbchen darauf, vertilgt zu werden. Dazu gibt es selbstgemachte Sommermarmeladen, Waldhonig und Frisches von der Theke.
Ein Seetag am Anfang einer Reise ist perfekt, um das Schiff kennen zu lernen. Eine Orientierungshilfe bietet die Waterkant. Eine Bar und gleichzeitig das zehn Meter große Schiffsmodell. Gäste bekommen einen guten Überblick, über den Riesen mit 15 Decks und einer Länge von 295 Metern. Außerdem bekommt man hier Einblicke in Bereiche, die sonst verborgen bleiben. So lernt man zum Beispiel die Laundry, den Maschinenraum und das Lager kennen. Auffällig ist die Detailtreue. Hier staunt man zum Beispiel über den Pool, der im Modell knapp ein Zehntel der Länge des Schiffs einnimmt. Und es stimmt, tatsächlich bietet der 25 Meter lange Pool nicht nur für Kinder, sondern auch ambitionierte Schwimmer Verausgabungsmöglichkeiten.
Wer einmal am Pool ist, kann man bei der Gelegenheit noch einen Abstecher zur Eisbar machen. Empfohlen wird die Geschmackssorte „Mandel“, die zum Rentierland Norwegen, auf dessen Kurs wir uns befinden, sehr gut passt.
Das Mittagessen ruft, wir gehen ins Gosch. Eingefleischte (oder eingeshrimpste) Fans kommen hier voll und ganz auf ihre Kosten. Mit Bedienung oder ohne – der Fisch schmeckt ausgezeichnet!
Zeit für einen Spaziergang. Wir schlendern über das Deck, hinein in den Shop mit Parfümerie und Co. und kommen schließlich auf Deck 10 und 11 an, welches ausschließlich für den Spa & Meer Bereich reserviert ist. Hier lassen wir die Seele baumeln im Wellnesstempel. Vier verschiedene Saunen laden zum Entspannen ein. Besonders die finnische Sauna mit dem gigantischen Blick auf die Weiten des Meeres lockt die Besucher reihenweise. Als würde man eintauchen und nach einer langen Fahrt aus der Stille wieder auftauchen.
Zum Abendessen haben wir auf der „Großen Freiheit“ eine große Auswahl. Wer feine Küche bevorzugt, sollte die letzte Chance nutzen, um im „Richards“ zu speisen. Dieses Restaurant wird es auf den neuen Schiffen der Flotte nicht mehr geben.
So aber das Surf & Turf Steakhouse, das gewiss mittlerweile seine Stammgäste hat. Einmal pro Fahrt sollt man hier einkehren. Zwischen zartem Wagyu Fleisch, edlem Pommernrind oder nussigem Iberico-Schwein kann der Gast wählen. Die Qual der Wahl zieht sich durch den gesamten Abend. Denn nach der Fleischauswahl darf man sich noch ein passendes Messer ordern, aus Schildkröte, Krokodil und Co. und das Essen mit Salzen aus Dänemark oder dem Iran verfeinern. Da schmeckt selbst die Vorspeise aus Brot mit Öl und Salz fantastisch. Speisen ohne Fleisch gibt es selbstverständlich auch. Kandidierter Schafskäse und Spargel locken bestimmt den ein oder anderen Vegetarier ins Restaurant. Ein Abend in Familie ist doch viel gemütlicher, als wenn man sich trennen müsste. Fleischanbeter kommen hier voll und ganz auf ihre Kosten. Und die sind im Übrigen erschwinglich.
Apropos erschwingen, spätestens hier sollte man auf der Tui Mein Schiff 4 an Kunst vorbei gekommen sein. Vor dem Surf & Turf Steakhaus, sprich direkt im Diamanten, schwingt eine Figur, die abends sogar golden leuchtet. Überall thront Kunst in verschiedenen Gestaltungsvarianten; Gemälde in den Kabinen und auf den Gängen, an der Rezeption stehen mannshohe Figuren aus Holz und im Atlantik Restaurant staunt man über mutmaßliche Seeigel, die aus Bleistiftminen konzipiert wurden. An Bord befinden sich über 6000 Werke, mit einem Wert von über 1,5 Millionen Euro. Hier kann man also durchaus von einem schwimmenden Museum sprechen.
Neben den Werken befindet sich ein Schild mit einer Nummer. Diese kann man im TV oder per App eingeben und sich jederzeit über die Werke informieren – wann und so viel man möchte. Kunst ist ja bekanntlich subjektiv, deshalb wird der ein oder andere das Theater, die Livebands oder auch das Klanghaus zur Kunst mitzählen. Oft hat man schon gehört, dass ein Schiff eine bessere Soundanlage besitzt, als so manches Theater an Land. So staunt man nicht schlecht über die Vielfältigkeit des Klanghauses. Hier gibt es Lesungen, Comedyveranstaltungen, Sprechtheater und klassische Konzerte. Es klingt fast so, als hätte Tui Cruises einen Bildungsauftrag und führe die Gäste langsam aber sicher in homoöpathischen Dosen an Hochkunst heran. Ein selten gutes Beispiel!
Übrigens direkt hinter dem Klanghaus befindet sich die Abtanzbar, aber dank der perfekten Isolierung hört man nichts, weder von der einen noch der anderen Seite.
So oder so, man kann den Abend ruhig oder schwungvoll ausklingen lassen.
Bevor es am nächsten Morgen in Oslo an Land geht, sucht man sich ein ruhiges Plätzchen zum Frühstücken. Kleiner Geheimtipp: das Tag&Nacht Bistro. Hier sitzt man fast alleine und was viele nicht wissen, es gibt nicht nur Currywurst und Pizza.
In Oslo machen wir einen Stadtspaziergang und sind angetan, vom Flair und der Wärme Skandinaviens. Nach nur einem halben Tag, geht es wieder aufs Schiff. Bei Sonnenschein genießen wir die Ausfahrt aus den Fjorden. Wer einen Platz findet, im blauen Balkon, der Himmel&Meer Lounge oder wer sich eine Suite leistet, in der X-Lounge. Hier gibt es kostenfreies Internet. Das lohnt sich. Denn für 24 Stunden Internetzugang, greift man mit 19,90€ tief in die Tasche. Außerdem werden durchweg kleine Snacks serviert und Champagner kredenzt. Beim Weg hierhin passiert man übrigens die „Franziska van Almsick“ Suite (natürlich nur von außen), Namensgeberin der Suite und Taufpatin des Schiffs.
Kopenhagen. Traditionell per Rad geht es durch diese bikefreundliche Stadt. Obwohl wir schon etwas lächerlich aussehen, mit Helm und Sportkleidung, während an uns Frauen in Kleidern und Männer in Anzug in einer Mordsgeschwindigkeit vorbei düsen. Der Guide hat eine Menge zu erzählen und führt uns auch in alternative Stadtviertel wie Christiana, wo wir mit hängenden Mundwinkeln reinfahren und mit lachenden Gesichtern rauskommen.
Am letzten Abend bevor der Alltag uns wieder hat, kann man noch einmal richtig feiern; zappelnd in der Abtanzbar oder nippend in der TUI Bar. Auch hier greift Tui Cruises zu einem schlauen Trick: verschiedene Bands spielen ihre Lieder in einer Black Box ein und erscheinen auf vier Flatscreens. So spielen sie an 365 Tagen im Jahr und werden nie krank. Der Sound ist traumhaft und die Musik nicht zu aufdringlich. Entspannte Atmosphäre, um einen letzten Abend mit neuen Freunden und Bordbekanntschaften bei einem Cocktail ausklingen zu lassen.
Morgens kommen wir erholt in Kiel an, haben einen Eindruck von diesem beeindruckenden Schiff; das Personal ist freundlich und hilfsbereit, trotz fast einhundertprozentiger Auslastung findet man immer Freiräume für sich. Das Essen überzeugt. Durch eine breite Aufstellung an Erholungsangeboten, spricht Tui Cruises mit diesem Schiff zum einen die etwas vermögenderen Gäste hinsichtlich Suiten und X-Lounge an, genauso wie den Musikliebhaber und Kunstfanatiker, den Museumsgänger, den Abenteuerlustigen, Familien mit Kindern, aber auch erstaunlich viele junge Menschen an- und das auf einer Nordroute! Die Mitbewerber können sich warm anziehen, dank des ausgeklügelten Konzepts.
Fakt ist – wir kommen auf jeden Fall wieder und definitiv nur mit Balkonkabine.

Those who have never set sail from the port of Kiel with a cruise ship will nevertheless find their way around very quickly. Because from the central station of Kiel, one can either take a shuttle bus to the cruise terminal or walk the scarce kilometre along the „blue line“; past the harbour, past the red light district (which during the day seems to be very inconspicuous), past the old town and the view always directed to the front, to the stern of the new flagship of Tui Cruises – the Mein Schiff 4.
Of course, the impressive diamond has remained faithful, which is why you can’t mix up the ship. But also from the other side you can recognize the giant, not only because the ship shows you the way, it names „My Ship“, but because besides the lifeboats starboard and port, it also adorns huge glass facades, which make up the balcony.
But before you can inspect your cabin and the balcony, you first have to go through the security check and then check in. And this takes a very long time. There is just a two-hour slot where one is allowed to check in, thus, all 2506 souls come at once. Tui Cruises has taken care of this. There is a charming young man who serves chilled water and tea all the time. With the views, one can stop and wait a little longer. Arrived on board, one tries to find an orientation. This works very well, thanks to deck designations such as „Crab (deck 11), Aqua (deck 12), and Horizont (deck 14)“, which are also found on other ships of the shipping company.
If you dare to take the first look into the cabin, you are speechless. A huge room with a gigantic bed, a work and make-up area, a nice, functional bathroom, three paintings per cabin, which are individually designed and of course – the balcony (at least in more than 80% of all cabins!). With two chairs he waits for his guests, who are sailing towards the sunset.
But before you can say, „I have arrived on my ship“, the signal for the safety exercise already sounds. A meeting place is in the „Casino&Lounge“. The security film is only shown on two screens. However, since an extremely large number of people block the view, the guests in the back cannot see anything. But there is still room to go up. Better thought out is the new method to count all guests. Instead of printing out paper, Tui Cruises (not for the first time) focuses on sustainability and lets the crew check off the guests on a tray. This makes it easy to meet at another collection point and even worried parents know at the touch of a button that the little ones are doing well in the Kids Club.
In general, the Kids and Teens Club attracts children magically. If at the beginning of the day it still says „Mum you stay here“, there are tears at the end of the day when you have to tear yourself away from your new friends. Tui Cruises is very child-friendly. From the nest for the minis (with parents), the Kids Club with different age groups (crabs: 3 to 6 years, monkfish: 7 to 9 years, piranhas: 10 to 11 years) to the Teens Club, everyone can make a mistake. There are daily programs, workshops, game consoles and even excursions for families or just for children. There are probably also parents who don’t see their children at all during their holidays because they only „hang around“ there. At the very least, the children are taught in peace and quiet on site what the properties of the lifejacket are, how the whistle works and why a light comes on as soon as the vest comes into contact with water. The children are well prepared for an emergency.
We are on our way to Oslo. The first evening is approaching and the question arises where to eat. A good choice is the main restaurant Atlantik. Because here, in the Premium All Inclusive Package, one has the possibility to dine in three different restaurants at once. You can choose between the Atlantik Classic, Mediterranean or Brasserie. The Brasserie with French specialities offers onion soup, coq au vin and chestnut mousse with orange jelly. All of this is served in the usual Atlantic style by a waitress. Afterwards you can enjoy a cocktail at one of the numerous bars. The most popular is the TUI Bar, closely followed by the Manageable and the „Außen Alster“, like the lake in Hamburg, (depending on the time of day).
In order to get fit for the day, the next morning we go to the Spa&Sport area. The equipment is well stocked at eight in the morning, but you get a seat. Towels are available on site, although one is almost sorry to take apart the small folded elephant from towels. But there is a big rush during the yoga – sure with the view. Gently the small waves sway by while the participants lead the looking down dog. The „fish“ would have been more appropriate in view of the element, but is very demanding.
And in the sports course everyone should feel comfy.
Zumba and Latin Dance also find positive resonance. Here you can really burn calories. Considering the fact that it is time for breakfast after exercise, a must!
The bakery makes breakfast a real treat. Countless different types of bread and rolls, croissants, pretzels and co. are waiting in their baskets to be eaten. They are accompanied by homemade summer jams, forest honey and fresh from the counter.
A day at sea at the beginning of a journey is perfect to get to know the ship. The Waterkant offers an orientation guide. A bar and at the same time the ten meter model ship. Guests get a good overview of the giant with 15 decks and a length of 295 metres. In addition, one gets a glimpse into areas that would otherwise remain hidden. For example, one gets to know the laundry, the engine room and the storage. The attention to detail is striking. Here, one is for example amazed by the pool that in the model takes nearly a tenth of the length of the ship. And it is true, in fact, the pool of a length of 25 metres does not only offer possibilities for children but also for ambitious swimmers.
Those who are once at the pool can make a side trip to the ice bar. Recommended is the taste „almond“, which fits very well to the reindeer country Norway, on whose course we are.
Lunch is calling, we go to the Gosch. Dyed-in-the-wool (or shrimped-in) fans get their money’s worth here. With service or without – the fish tastes excellent!
Time for a walk. We stroll across the deck, into the shop with perfumery and co. and finally arrive at deck 10 and 11, which is exclusively reserved for the Spa & Sea area. Here we let the soul dangle in the wellness temple. Four different saunas invite you to relax. Especially the Finnish sauna with its gigantic view of the vastness of the sea attracts visitors in rows. It’s like diving in and emerging from the silence after a long journey.
For dinner we have a wide choice on the „Große Freiheit“/huge freedom. Those who prefer fine cuisine should use the last chance to dine at the „Richards“. This restaurant will no longer exist on the new ships of the fleet.
But so will the Surf & Turf Steakhouse, which certainly has its regular guests by now. Once per trip you should stop here. Guests can choose between tender Wagyu meat, fine Pomeranian beef or nutty Iberico pork. The variety of choice runs through the whole evening. After the choice of meat, you can order a suitable knife, made of turtle, crocodile and co. and refine your meal with salts from Denmark or Iran. Even the starter of bread with oil and salt tastes fantastic. Of course there are also dishes without meat. Candidate sheep’s cheese and asparagus are sure to lure the odd vegetarian into the restaurant. An evening with the family is much more comfortable than if you had to part. Meat lovers will get their money’s worth here. And by the way, they are affordable.
Talking about affordability, you should have passed art on the Tui Mein Schiff 4 by here at the latest. In front of the Surf & Turf Steakhouse, i.e. directly in the Diamond, a figure swings, which even glows golden in the evening. Everywhere, art in different variants of design is enthroned; paintings in the cabins and in the corridors, at the reception, there are man-high figures made of wood and in the Atlantic restaurant, one is amazed by alleged sea urchins that were conceived from pencil leads. There are over 6000 works on board, with a value of over 1.5 million euros. So here one can definitely speak of a floating museum.
Next to the works there is a plate with a number. You can enter this number on TV or via app and get information about the works at any time – whenever and as much as you like. As we all know, art is subjective, so some people will count the theatre, live bands or even the Klanghaus as art. Often you have heard that a ship has a better sound system than many a theatre on land. Thus, one is not astonished about the diversity of the Klanghaus. There are readings, comedy events, spoken theatre and classical concerts. It almost sounds as if Tui Cruises has an educational mission and slowly but surely introduces the guests to high art in homoeoepathic doses. A rarely good example!
By the way, the dance bar is located directly behind the Klanghaus, but thanks to the perfect insulation you won’t hear anything, neither from one side nor the other.
Either way, you can let the evening end quietly or swingingly.
Before you go ashore the next morning in Oslo, find a quiet place for breakfast. A little insider tip: the Day&Night Bistro. Here one sits almost alone and what many people do not know: there is not only curry sausage and pizza.
In Oslo we take a city walk and are taken with the flair and warmth of Scandinavia. After only half a day, we get back on the ship. With sunshine we enjoy the exit from the fjords. Whoever finds a place, in the blue balcony, the Himmel&Meer Lounge or whoever can afford a suite, in the X-Lounge. Here there is free internet. It is worth it. Because for 24 hours internet access, you dig deep into your pocket with 19,90€. In addition, small snacks are served and champagne is served throughout. On the way here you will pass the „Franziska van Almsick“ Suite (of course only from the outside), eponym of the suite and godmother of the ship.
Copenhagen. Traditionally by bike you will pass through this bike-friendly city. Although we look a bit ridiculous, with helmet and sportswear, while women in dresses and men in suits are passing us at a murderous speed. The guide has a lot to tell and also takes us to alternative districts like Christiana, where we ride in with hanging mouths and come out with smiling faces.
On the last evening before the daily routine has us back, we can really party again; fidgeting in the dance bar or sipping in the TUI bar. Here, too, Tui Cruises uses a clever trick: different bands play their songs in a black box and appear on four flat screens. This way they play 365 days a year and never get sick. The sound is dreamlike and the music is not too obtrusive. Relaxed atmosphere to end a last evening with new friends and board acquaintances over a cocktail.
In the morning we arrive in Kiel relaxed, have an impression of this impressive ship; the staff is friendly and helpful, despite almost one hundred percent occupancy you always find room for yourself. The food is convincing. Due to a wide range of recreational offers, Tui Cruises with this ship appeals on the one hand to the somewhat wealthier guests in terms of suites and X-lounge, as well as to music lovers and art fanatics, museum-goers, adventurous people, families with children, but also a surprisingly large number of young people – and all this on a northern route! Competitors can dress warmly, thanks to the ingenious concept.
Fact is – we will definitely come back and definitely only with a balcony cabin.
