Albanien mit dem Campervan im August
Auf Albanien hat die große Hoffnung oder Erwartung geruht. Die Strände von Albanien werden gehyped wie die Malediven Europas, doch das sind sie nicht.
In Albanien sind die Campingplätze zur Hochsaison noch recht frei, wir haben immer zwischen 15€ bis 20€ gezahlt. Einige haben wohl auch direkt am Meer geschlafen. Da ich keinen Allradantrieb habe, haben wir einige Campingplätze nicht ansteuern können, denn bei manchen Campingplätzen gibt es ungelogen Steigungen von 20% und mehr. Einige kann man einfach nur mit einem kleinen Bus oder gar Auto anfahren und dann das Zelt aufstellen. Aber es gab immer freie Plätze.
Der Süden war sehr heiß und uns im August einfach zu voll. Am Meer in Vlore zum Beispiel liegen die Leute wie Sardinen nebeneinander. Oft wird man quasi gezwungen, eine Liege für einen Tag zu mieten, die ca. 15€/Tag kostet. Oder man läuft so weit, bis es keine Liegen mehr gibt und sitzt zwischen Sandflöhen.
Der Skhoder See ist ein guter Ausgangspunkt mit dem Lake Shkoder Resort (Skuratisee), um Ausflüge zu unternehmen oder einfach mal zu chillen. Von hier aus haben wir auf die schwarzen Berge Montenegros geschaut.
Von hier gibt es geführte Touren nach Koman, wir haben Lumi i Shales selbst gebucht. Auf der anderen Seite von den Bergen ist Theth, wo man fantastische Wandertouren in den albanischen Alpen unternehmen kann. Es bietet sich von hier auch eine (geführte) Rundtour an.
Im Sommer würde ich Albanien nicht empfehlen, das Land wird förmlich überrannt und die Preise sind zwei bis drei Mal so hoch wie sonst, sodass es sich die Einwohner selbst kaum noch leisten können.
Albanien ist schön, aber nicht schöner als Rumänien. Selbst Nordmazedonien fand ich landschaftlich angenehm, dem Land fehlt nur leider der Zugang zum Meer.
Die Strände im Süden haben wir nicht gesehen. Das was wir von Vlore gesehen haben, erinnerte uns eher an die Ostsee von Dänemark. Da waren die Strände in Korfu oder die Küsten von Kroatien schöner.
Albanien ist schön, aber lang schon kein Geheimtipp mehr und auch nicht schöner als andere europäische Länder. Meiner Meinung nach etwas zu viel Hype, dafür sehr gutes Marketing.
kurze Geschichte zum Schluss:
Während dieses Sonnenuntergangs, den mein Freund und ich gemeinsam beobachteten,
schaute sich ein alter Mann den Sonnenuntergang ebenfalls an, aber er drehte der Sonne den Rücken zu und beobachtete uns und andere Leute.
Wir dachten, vielleicht hat er einen geliebten Menschen verloren.
Da wurde mir klar, dass das Leben endlos ist und dass wir uns des gegenwärtigen Augenblicks bewusst sein sollten, zusammen mit unseren Lieben.
Schaffen wir Erinnerungen, von denen wir noch lange zehren können.

Albania by campervan in August
Albania has been the focus of great hope and expectation. The beaches of Albania are hyped like the Maldives of Europe, but they are not.
The campsites in Albania are still quite free in high season and we always paid between €15 and €20. Some probably slept right by the sea. As I don’t have a four-wheel drive, we couldn’t drive to some campsites, as some of them have gradients of 20% and more. Some you can only get to with a small bus or even a car and then pitch your tent. But there were always free pitches.
The south was very hot and simply too crowded for us in August. At the seaside in Vlore, for example, people lie next to each other like sardines. You are often practically forced to rent a sun lounger for the day, which costs around €15/day. Or you walk until there are no more loungers and sit among sand fleas.
Lake Skhoder is a good starting point with the Lake Shkoder Resort (Lake Skurati) for excursions or just chilling out. From here, we looked out over the black mountains of Montenegro.
From here there are guided tours to Koman, we booked Lumi i Shales ourselves. On the other side of the mountains is Theth, where you can go on fantastic hiking tours in the Albanian Alps. You can also do a (guided) round trip from here.
I would not recommend Albania in summer, the country is literally overrun and the prices are two to three times higher than usual, so that the inhabitants themselves can hardly afford it. #
Albania is beautiful, but no more beautiful than Romania. I even found North Macedonia a pleasant landscape, but unfortunately the country lacks access to the sea.
We didn’t see the beaches in the south. What we saw of Vlore reminded us more of the Baltic Sea in Denmark. The beaches in Corfu or the coasts of Croatia were more beautiful.
Albania is beautiful, but has long since ceased to be an insider tip and is no more beautiful than other European countries. In my opinion, a bit too much hype, but very good marketing.
Just a short story at the end.
During this sunset, which my boyfriend and I were watching together,
an old man watched the sunset as well, but he turned his back off the sun and watched us and other people. Maybe he lost a loved one.
It made me realize, that life is endless and that we should be aware of the present moment, together with our loved ones.
